Buying a Phone Overseas for Personal Use
Q. If I am traveling and I buy a phone overseas, how do I register it to operate in Pakistan?
A. Through DIRBS Device Registration System, you must register the device by the time you arrive Pakistan. A person is allowed to register up to 5 devices every 12 months for personal use.
Q. What if I get a gift device from abroad, how may I register it?
A. If received through a traveler: The traveler must register the device using DIRBS Device Registration System upon arriving Pakistan.
If received by post: You must register it using DIRBS Device Registration System upon arriving Pakistan. A person is allowed to register up to 5 devices every 12 months for personal use..
Q. May I register the device through calling the Authority or operator?
A. No, you must follow the existing procedure i.e. to register using DIRBS Device Registration System.
Q. What if I buy a device online? What do I do to register it? What are the required documents?
A. If the online company is in Pakistan and has already imported the devices legally, then these devices are already registered.
If the online company is outside Pakistan, the device(s) will be received by post; a person must first register the device on Device Registration System to acquire the CoC (Certificate of Compliance to Technical Standards) for the imported device.
Q. How long does it take to acquire CoC?
A. Usually CoC is issued within 24 hours of application.
Q. Is the limitation of 5 per type or per device? May I bring with me 5 dongles, 5 phones, and 5 tablets?
A. No, as per PTA policy, a person is allowed to register 5 devices every 12 months regardless of their type.
